recently i've came across [[http://highscalability.com/blog/2013/1/28/duckduckgo-architecture-1-million-deep-searches-a-day-and-gr.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+HighScalability+%28High+Scalability%29|an interesting, start-up search engine]] called [[https://duckduckgo.com|DuckDuckGo]]. first thing is privacy policy, which is [[http://donttrack.us|not commonly respected nowadays]] ([[wp>https]] is standard of course). there are a lot of nice features, like integration with [[http://www.wolframalpha.com/|WolframAlpha]] for doing [[https://duckduckgo.com/goodies#Math|mathematical calculations on the fly]]. in general it is plugin-reach and returns reasonable results. i though of giving it a try as my default search engine. let see how it performs in the wild. :)
