====== 2021-08-11 - starlink antennas ====== last year i wrote how [[blog:2020:08:29:2020-08-29_-_awaiting_starlink|i cannot wait starlink]] to become available for every1. pardon my ignorance, but i was not expecting dish it to be THAT big. i was not exactly expecting GPS-sized antenna, but still... i guess due to sheer size it will be out of scope for most of the usages i was thinking about. also power consumption of 100W makes it not suitable for small, battery-powered applications. the device itself however seems to be quite a technology marvel. [[https://hackaday.com|hackaday]] has already featured: [[https://hackaday.com/2020/11/25/literally-tearing-apart-a-spacex-starlink-antenna/|teardown]], [[https://hackaday.com/2021/01/11/starlink-satellite-dish-x-rayed-to-unlock-rf-magic-inside/|x-raying]], and a [[https://hackaday.com/2021/07/07/starlink-terminal-unit-firmware-dumped/|firmware dump]] of it. all with videos linked, going into details on how (ppl think) it works and why. i recommend you have a look into it -- quite a ride on high-f! :)
