today i was listening to darknet diaries, specifically episode 92: the pirate bay… and the shanty opening (and closing) the episode – a hacker sea shanty – made my day. have fun! :)

very long time ago i was complaining about legacy things, including daylight saving time. some time ago i've came across John Oliver's daylight saving time - how is this still a thing? short. enjoy the funny take on this, though problem is severe, as it means that 1/year, for about 1 week time, there is an increased number of accidents on the roads, due to ppl being sleep depraved. yes – this -1h of sleeping per day can affect you significantly, especially if you're already on the edge (hashtag: parenthood).

some notes on features of an effective engineer. while i would not agree on 100% what is put there, i'd say that vast majority is right to the point. some of these i have also discovered myself – often “the hard way”. if you have not seen it before, it's totally worth your time!

2021-08-11 - starlink antennas

last year i wrote how i cannot wait starlink to become available for every1. pardon my ignorance, but i was not expecting dish it to be THAT big. i was not exactly expecting GPS-sized antenna, but still… i guess due to sheer size it will be out of scope for most of the usages i was thinking about. also power consumption of 100W makes it not suitable for small, battery-powered applications.

the device itself however seems to be quite a technology marvel. hackaday has already featured: teardown, x-raying, and a firmware dump of it. all with videos linked, going into details on how (ppl think) it works and why. i recommend you have a look into it – quite a ride on high-f! :)
