2024-11-18 - anonymity analysis of the Death Note

a friend of mine recently sent me a great piece: death note: L, anonymity & eluding entropy. it analyzes an excellent Death Note anime / manga, from the point of view of leaking information and loosing anonymity. TBH it's the best piece i have read in a very long while! analysis itself is to the point and is covered with awesome annotations and links left, right and center. i've spent a better part of a day down the rabbit hole(s) for many pieces, and learned a ton of new things.

however a big spoiler alert – if you have not seen / read Death Note yet, make sure to do this first. it's worth its time. analysis will be even more interesting, with all the background.

i recently came across EFF's cover your tracks page, that allows you to check what pieces of information can be leaked / tracked via your browser.

TL;DR there's a HUGE difference between firefox with basic add-ons and chromium (not mentioning chrome), even in incognito mode. give it a shot.
