3D printing - programmer's perspective (recording) – an introduction to the world of 3D printing, as seen by a software engineer.
structured logging (recording) – novel concept of log library, that preserves logged data structure. i.e. instead of getting tons of useless text lines you get a fully-structured documents, describing exactly what is needed, in a machine-readable format. C++ implementation of the library is available for free as a part of BUT library i maintain.
taming of the software - C++, embedded... and more (recording) – talk about building, composing and testing software for embedded platforms (but not only).

Optimizing software in C++ – very nice, free book (by Agner Fog) on software optimizations, that can be done in C++, for the modern hardware.
don't wake up the programmer – brilliant analogy to explain programmer's work to non-programmers and especially non-technical people.
open source and licensing – if (L)GPL is really so free? i had few chances in my life to see it is not.
the free lunch is over – interesting article written by Herb Sutter, dating back to 2005, explaining that multithread and multiprocessor software is an future for now on. releasing software that runs slow, thinking that CPUs will get fast enough in a year time, does not do the trick if your application won't scale well with a number of cores, that future CPUs will offer.
writing robust shell scripts – short article giving many hints on shell programming, that in general is problematic, since i has many details one must know/remember about.
Economy of uncertainty (PL) – interesting article discussing common economics approach fails constantly, a specially during crisis when it's needed the most.

WPA on linux – small set of pieces of information that helped me with configuration of WPA on my Debian box.
Linux kernel userspace API – since 2.6.23 kernel there is possibility to write drivers in userspace. this is good starting point, though there is still lack of some functionality like DMA which makes it impossible to write efficient drivers for graphics, fs, etc.
The perils of JavaSchools – interesting article about lowering requirements for degree in computer science which effects in CS-graduated students that do not understand pointers, recursion and other basics.
cold boot attack – description of vulnerability of encrypted disks based on fact, that RAM memory content can be read after up to few minutes after power-off (yes - DRAM too!).

this is not actually “an article”, but rather a set of interesting materials/articles found on the internet. if you're about to be interviewer in one yourself, try it: many hints, good practices and interesting observations by experienced ppl.

consider it as “must know” set for interviewer. :)

usual interview consists of 3 stages: choosing CVs/resumes of ppl you want to talk to (1), making short phone-screen to check if they have at least basic knowledge and understanding for software development (2) and therefore can be considered as candidates for long conversation (3). all 3 have been described in detail from practical point of view by Joel Spolsky's in following articles:

pharmacist's tincture

recipe for tincture follows – bu be careful! it's delicious! :)

what you need

1kg of sugar
1kg lemon
1l of spirit
1l of milk
~5l jar (glass one)
some patience

how to do this

carefully rind lemons (specially of the “white thing”, just under the yellow zest!). cut it into small cubicles and throw into a big jar. from around 1/3 of all lemons cut yellow zest (no “white” thing again!) into pieces and throw into to the jar as well. melt sugar in cold milk (np.: with blender) and add spirit, constantly blending. result of your work pour into the jar.

now close the jar hermetically and wait for at least 2 weeks (3-4 are known to be good :) ), moving it from time to time so that all of it will be mixing.

after given amount of time open the jar and filter it's content through gauze (or something similar – see the picture) and then again through coffee filter (more precise filtering).

bon appetit! :)

final remarks

when filtering you'll notice that a lot of white cream has left. this is no accident - this is white cheese indeed! :) it can be used as a base for cheesecake or eaten as-is. just notice that there is a LOT of alcohol and so you should not drive after that too! ;)

lemons parts can be left/eaten as well. they can be used ex.: for drinks.
